Steven Spielberg is an American film director, screenwriter, producer and business magnate. He has covered many different genres of film over his career (of over four decades) in the industry, and has won numerous awards including Best Director. In total, the unadjusted gross of all Spielberg-directed films exceeds $8.5 billion worldwide.
Probably Spielberg's most successful Thriller film is Jaws, which was released in 1975. The release of this film was a watershed moment in motion picture history. The plot, although it was more basic than most Thriller films, was captivating to audiences of all ages; a giant man-eating shark attacking a fictional beach, and the local police, marine biologist and shark hunter have to work together to hunt it. The film made a box office profit of $470,653,000 despite the budget for the film being only $9,000,000.
Spielberg applied to attend the film school at University of Southern California School of Theatre, Film and Television twice, but he was unsuccessful on both occasions. Consequently, he attended California State University, Long Beach in the 1960s. However, his actual career began when he went to Universal Studios as an unpaid, 7-days-a-week intern.
In addition to my Spielberg Director Study, I am also planning on analysing some of his work; the opening scene from Jaws.
