- During one of the films, which was based around a woman in a house, narrative retardation was used because they did not show the woman’s face for the majority of the film. This was interesting and exciting to us as the audience because we wanted to know who she was. We would like to incorporate this into our own work. If we choose to base the film around a man, it would be good if we did it so we withheld the man’s identity.
- In terms of sound, we liked how many of the films we watched used very ‘innocent’, happy songs. This was extremely juxtaposed with what was actually happening in the film. During one of the openings, where someone captured a girl, nursery rhymes were playing. This was quite eerie because we could see that what was happening was very sinister to it took something that the audience thought to be very non-threatening and made it scary.
- One part that I found really interesting was the use of a lighter and setting fire to a photograph. This is something that stuck in my mind and I would love to use some form of fire in our final film.
Overall the student examples helped to show us what we could do and gave us inspiration for our camerawork, sound and narrative work.
